Every new maritime hardware technology has to prove itself across 3 key dimensions: technical viability, regulatory compliance, and market readiness. The goal is to make things workable, insurable, and repeatable. When even ‘pilot’ projects are worth millions and take years to get into the water, this is how it should be.
But de-risking alone doesn’t change industries. At some point, the question shifts from ‘does this work?‘ to ‘can we scale this fast enough to matter?‘
And that requires a fundamentally different mindset. Scaling requires technologies to go through several iterations fast enough to meet the urgency of the climate challenge, even when the market hasn’t yet closed the green premium gap. We need to pursue perfection while deploying continuously: building supply chains, training crews, and learning by doing.
